Aurelio Settimo SSA
1943-1962: Aurelio’s parents settled in the Annunziata, in an old farmhouse built at the end of the 19th century and they used to practice mixed farming, working the land (vineyards, fruit trees, hazelnuts) and breeding animals (hens, rabbits, cows).

1962-1974: In 1962, when his father Domenico died, Aurelio decided to specialize in wine-growing: the vineyards were extended, and the AURELIO SETTIMO label was introduced.                 
Until 1974, when Aurelio began extending the winery, 50% of the grapes grown on the estate continued to be sold to the larger local wineries.

1974-2007: Since the 1974 vintage all the production has been vinified on site. 
Since the death of Aurelio (March 2007), production and sales have been handled by his daughter Tiziana, who had long been assisting him in the running of the business.

The philosophy remains the same, however: to focus on QUALITY, in keeping with TRADITION.

The Aurelio Settimo winery produces only DOC and DOCG status red wines, grown exclusively on estate vineyards and vinified according to tradition: 5.67 hectares (14 acres) growing NEBBIOLO, and 0.97 hectares planted with DOLCETTO.                                                                                 
3.42 hectares of the estate’s Nebbiolo lies facing SOUTH - SOUTH-WEST on what is considered to be one of the area’s very finest crus: the celebrated ROCCHE DELL’ANNUNZIATA.

The ROCCHE DELL’ANNUNZIATA in La Morra is considered as being one of  the top growing areas for BAROLO wine. The fertile, clayey-calcareous soli, together with the altitude (270 – 300 mt) and exposure (SOUTH – SOUTH-WEST), produce a full-bodied, but, at the same time, delicate, very fragrant Barolo.

Our BAROLO DOCG is vinified according to tradition: fairly lengthy fermentations on the skins, with frequent breaking up of the cap and pumping over of the must, followed by maturing in French oak casks, holding between 2,500 and 3,500 litres.

Langhe Nebbiolo is produced from grapes grown on the younger vineyards facing South-East, in the same area as the Nebbiolo used to make Barolo. The maximum yield of 8,000 kg./Ha is also the same.
Compared to the Barolo of the same vintage, the Langhe Nebbiolo undergoes a shorter maceration on the skins, and is not matured in wood.

Its attractive tannins are therefore those found naturally in the Nebbiolo grape itself, and the wine has good structure.

It is normally ready to drink without needing to be aged.

The DOLCETTO D’ALBA DOC is a fresh and fruity red wine. Easy to drink, it goes very well with salami and “antipasti”, but also pasta and meat.
The maceration is short and traditional (ca. 7 days) and it is aged for one year in steel tanks.

In exceptional and outstanding vintages, we produce a  small quantity of BAROLO DOCG RISERVA ROCCHE: it is a very special wine for “big” occasions!!!
Very powerful, with strong tannins and excellent  structure: it lends itself well to a long cellar life!
