The “World of Private Label” just keeps getting bigger. The final attendance and exhibition numbers are in, and PLMA’s 2013 “World of Private Label” International Trade Show held last month in Amsterdam broke all records. There were 10,650 visitors, from 115 countries, compared to 9,280 visitors in 2012.

On the trade show floor, there were 2,119 exhibitors, from 70 countries, up from 2,085 exhibitors the previous year. The exhibition floor aisles were packed with retailers and other visitors for the entire two days of the trade show. Especially popular were the Pavilion exhibits, displaying products from different countries and regions.

Those attending the pre-show seminar heard good news from a presentation from Nielsen about market share in Europe. Retailer brands once again posted share gains despite the increased promotional activity by A-brands attempting to slow their growth. The market share for private label climbed in 18 of the 20 countries tracked by Nielsen for PLMA’s 2013 Private Label Yearbook.

Retailer brands accounted for the majority of all products sold in two countries: Switzerland (53%) and Spain (51%). Market share levels exceeded 40% in four countries: the UK (45%), Germany (42%), Belgium (41%) and Portugal (44%).
